This project emerged from a curiosity in the sex work industry in the Netherlands. Prostitution in the Netherlands is legal and regulated. De Wallen, the largest and best-known Red-light district in Amsterdam, is a destination for international sex tourism. Sex Work and Care is a diagram and performance for education and care for the sex worker with hopes to bring people together across borders, care practices, and knowledge worlds. Sex Work and Care explores the rights of a sex worker to redefine our ethical position of the profession. Through the diagram, I also attempt to deconstruct stigma, which is based on false assumptions the public maintains on the field. This is a project for those who do not have a strong knowledge of the sex work industry in order to fight the myths and misperceptions. Imbalanced power structures, transphobia, sexism and racial discrimination are still common in the sex work industry. It is time for an upgrade that meets the needs of contemporary society through education, awareness, and sensitivity to the marginalized group.
